Everyone understands the plight of the typical HR manager or for that matter just any manager who has to announce that in his or her team, department or organization there will be no salary hike this time. Worst still is the plight of the managers and leaders who actually give salary hikes and then realize that their employees are still not motivated or sometimes even quit altogether. The answer therefore lies not in merely increasing salaries but in knowing more about what actually makes people get to work every day and what actually makes some contribute much more than others.
