Over the past month, we have explored various dimensions of change and its implications for both individuals and organisations. This week is about the challenges that one is likely to face when making changes while trying to move from point A to point B.
One of the biggest challenges when trying to make a shift is to balance the demands of career growth and personal life. A big change often makes great demands on both the time and energy of the person. The second challenge is the lack of control over the external environment. Both individuals and companies have a limited control over factors that are outside of themselves.
For many individuals, a major stumbling block presents is the lack of support systems and information. This is a topic that we will explore further in the next few weeks. Many others are not able to scale up or build capacity either in terms of knowledge or resources.
Fear of the unknown and the old adage that a ‘known devil is better than an unknown angel’ is the biggest mental challenge that one has to deal with during the period of change.
Change is often exciting and intimidating at the same time. It throws up a lot of chaos and uncertainty. It is a fine balancing act that requires tact, caution and risk taking ability, all of which are grounded in strong self –belief.
