Strategic Decision Making

Strategic Decision Making

Decisions and the Organization
Decision taken in the organization can potentially impact at all levels – strategic, tactical and operational. Decisions are made on a continuous basis in the organization and review of decisions is not usually part of the process. It is also a fact that training on decision-making is usually delivered to a restricted audience.

The ability for an organization to make and implement effective decisions is a business critical skill because it can impact upon the speed of response to issues that may have a significant impact, either positive or negative, on the organization. For instance, the ability to make decisions can affect how an organization will react to changes in the market due to:

• Competitor activity
• Customer requirements
• Supplier issues
• Technological advances
• Regulatory and legal changes

In particular, decisions that relate to how resources are
• Estimated
• Costed
• Obtained
• Used
