Our recent decision to launch the ‘Life of a Trainer’ campaign got me thinking about my own decision to move into this field and also about the other trainers out there and their journeys. I know for a definite fact that my decision to enter training was a result of an acquired taste and certainly not a calling. We are sure that while this could well be the same for many of our trainers, we are curious about the different stories out there. While many trainers have stumbled upon this career, most of them have gone to enjoy many of the insights that training provides into the mechanics of life and people. Training, in many ways, is a great leveller and teacher. It is a field with a very low entry barrier, but those that survive and thrive are few and far in between. This field is not devoid of its own set of unique challenges and hardships.
What got you interested in training? How did you make your start? Was it an easy transition to be followed by challenging times or was it a transition that you had to fight for? What about your first training experience? What are the challenges you have faced along the way and what makes you stay? What are the lessons you have learnt from your training’s and the growth that you have made as a person? What really to you is the essence of training? What do you hope to leave behind as your training legacy? The lives you have touched or those that have transformed yours? What in your opinion defines a trainer? What separates the men from the boys or the chaff from the wheat? Is this a field for those who fail at real life or is this the stage that prepares you for one? Answers to these are sure to make for some fun, poignant and inspiring anecdotes and lessons. We are also hoping that one of the other benefits that will result from this entire exercise is that it may inspire some people currently considering training to actually ‘take the plunge’. It may also help resolve problems being currently faced by trainers and probably re-ignite the training bug for some. This campaign is an attempt at unveiling the different facets of a trainer’s life and demystifying the field of training. It is also an attempt at answering ‘What makes training a tough but intriguing and rewarding career choice?’
